Southern Team Members Support Prince George’s County Residents During Christmas in April Event

VIENNA, VA. May 4, 2021 —Southern team members volunteered to help rehabilitate houses during this year’s Christmas in April event in Prince George’s County. Together with community partners, Southern’s team members provided support to low-income homeowners, particularly the elderly and people with disabilities, so that they may continue to live in warmth, safety, and independence. The transformations of the houses were amazing, and the homeowners who received assistance were thrilled with the outcomes.

Mary Kucharski, executive director of Christmas in April, shared, “Southern has some of the greatest volunteers on the planet! A special thank you to Mel Jenkins (Board Member), whose unwavering support is immeasurable. He brought Southern into the fold and we have never lost you as partners. Even with COVID, you all came through.”

Nearly 5,000 Southern team members have participated in Christmas in April over the past 34 years. They have repaired an estimated 1,000 homes and made approximately $1.5 million in repairs.
